Residential currency mortgages let you borrow in the income in which you are paid so you avoid potentially costly currency exchange and reduce the risk associated with currency fluctuations. Subject to availability, we can offer mortgages in other major currencies including US dollars, euros, Swiss francs, Hong Kong dollars and Japanese yen, whether you wish to purchase a home in the UK or a buy to let investment property.
Alternatively, a mortgage is available as an interest-only mortgage in a choice of currencies; sterling, US dollars, euros, Swiss francs, Hong Kong dollars or Japanese yen. Held offshore in the Isle of Man, this mortgage allows you to pay your mortgage interest with any offshore income you have, and can be taken out either to purchase a new property or to remortgage an existing property.

Barclays have a choice of mortgage types available to non UK-resident clients.
The interest rates are predetermined and are fixed for a set amount of time, depending on the mortgage you choose. After the fixed rate period, your mortgage will switch to the Standard Variable Rate. Early Repayment Charges apply during the fixed rate period.
A variable interest rate fluctuates in line with general interest rates and market conditions. Set by the lender, it tends to follow changes to the Bank of England Base Rate.
The rate on this kind of mortgage is set at a certain percentage off our Standard Variable Rate for a set period of time. After the discounted period, the interest rate will revert to our Standard Variable Rate, so your repayments may increase. Early Repayment Charges apply during the discounted rate period.
This could be ideal for you if you want a mortgage that moves in line with the Barclays Bank Base Rate (BBBR). So when the BBBR (which is linked to the Bank of England Base Rate) falls, your monthly payments fall by a pre-determined margin. If the rate rises, so will your monthly mortgage repayments. BBBR typically follows the Bank of England Base Rate but it is not guaranteed to do so. The Bank of England Base Rate can go up or down and is announced by the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee every month.
